Abstract
The pathologic study performed on 15 diuretic cases of epidemic hemorrhaged fever by kidney needle biopsy at the department of internal medicine, Seoul National University hospital from October 1970 to September 1972.
The results are as follows:
1. The laboratory and physical findings are noticed through the course of the disease.
2. The glomerular cellularity is increased, especially focal proliferation or enlargement of endothelial cells, but the basement membrane of the glomeruli is not thickened in P.A.S. stairs. The dilatation of glomerular space, protein, free R.B.C. in glomerular space, and congestion of glomerular capillary are mild.
3. The degeneration or necrosis of epithelial cells of tubules are milder degree than autopsy cases. The tubular dilatation and intratubular proteinous, epithelial cell and/or heme casts are still observed.
4. The regenerative activity of epithelial cells of tubule is same appearance in both cases.
5. The interstitial edema is disappearing and/or milder degree than autopsy cases, which is a specific pathologic findings in diuretic phase. And also interstitial hemorrhage, hemosiderin deposition and/or vascular congestion are focal and mild.
6. The infiltration of inflammatory cells is prominent and persistent.
7. The coagulation necrosis is focal and milder degree than autopsy cases.
In the above results, the diagnosis is able to be performed by pathologic findings of epidemic hemorrhagic fever, and clinical course with severity of the disease are suspected. But the prognosis is not able to be concluded by kidney needle biopsy findings.
